Stalwart steps aside

Billingham Juniors FC would like to place on record their thanks to Graeme Havert for his dedication to the village ground in the years we have had the ground. Graeme told the club this week that he would be stepping away and enjoying some “Me time” in his camper van or on his new trike.

Graeme became involved with Billingham Juniors when we started to rent pitches in the winter off Cowpen Bewley Cricket Club. When the juniors took over the ground Graeme came as part of the fixtures and fittings and his knowledge of both the site and preparing pitches has been invaluable.

His love affair with the ground started as a young cricketer around 50 years ago and when the groundsman stepped down, Graeme stepped up and has been there ever since. Even when the cricket club folded, he moved across to the Juniors to help with the transition and keep the ground in great shape. His biggest smiles were always when the ground was full of kids playing football.

Happy trails Graeme.
