Lionhearts - SEND SECTION

Our Lionheart sessions are focussed on boys and girls with SEND needs.

The club worked hard before setting up the sessions, bringing on board Nathan, who's son plays in our u10 squad (25/26) and who's daughter has SEND requirements, We held meetings with Durham FA's SEND ambassador and attended several coaching courses aimed at coaching children with SEND requirements and put our plan together.

We received a massive boost when Paul " Brownie" Brown a friend of Nathan enquired about coaching the section- of course we said yes!

We spoke to our partners, Northfield school and booked the MUGA, deliberately based outside to reduce the impact of lights and noise on the children following advice from the DFA ambassador.

Former player Callum Deigan was approached with our plan and he and his newly formed company immediately agreed to fund our equipment, balls, cones, 1st aid kit and bibs (muted not day-glo colours chosen not to trigger the players) and we can't thank Greenline fencing enough for their support.

We posted our start up sessions well in advance to make sure we had enough interest to make it sustainable, consistency is key to a lot of our players and we were keen to make sure we had enough interest to make the sessions successful. Once we had enough expressions of interest it was HERE WE GO!

We have slowly built from 4 children to 10 and are confident once we expand our coaching staff and advertise, the session will continue to grow- leaflets are at the ready.

The kids are already asking about starting a team and we have approached a couple of clubs to look at friendlies.
